Tent City Rann of Kutch – Luxury Accommodations Redefined
When you hear the word tent, the first thought that comes to our mind is the basic shelter provided in a not so hospitable terrain. Tents have been providing shelters to travelers like us from mountains to beaches. Luxury accommodations, on the other hand, are the 5-star accommodations available in major cities. For the first time in life we experienced the perfect combination of tents with luxury! From AC to blower to a fully furnished washroom with solar geysers, it was luxury at its peak in the middle of a barren land. The hoardings of Gujarat Tourism and Mr. Bachchan inviting us to experience the fun and festivity of the Rann Utsav paved our way to the Tent City.
Tent City as the name suggests is a city built of tent-houses spread over a huge barren land in the Rann of Kutch district of Gujarat. Situated around 85kms from Bhuj, this place is built on a barren land to host the Rann Utsav for 100days from Nov-Feb every year. Bhuj being the nearest airport to the Great Rann of Kutch, flight bookings can also be done for Ahmadabad which connects to almost all cities within the country and internationally. As soon as you enter the tent city, you do not fail to appreciate the craftsmanship, skills and human marvel which are larger than life.
The entrance is marked by a huge gate, just like the one for the palaces. On the right was the reception area for welcoming the guests and the left had the Haat Bazaar selling the local specialties. We also spotted people enjoying their ride on the ATVs at a certain distance and we knew we are in for something great.
Once done with the formalities, we explored the area around our accommodation. The tent city is spread over an area of 5,00,000 square meters and has almost 350 tents spread over 9 clusters. Each cluster has a different set of accommodation from Premium to Economy, 1 for everyone! Here are a few clicks from our accommodation which was nothing short of dream come true:
The tent city is a city full of recreation, music, dance, pottery and various other activities. There is something here for everyone. For the foodie in us, we could not have asked for a better spread available in the dining area at the tent city. The organizers made sure we had all kinds of cuisines from different parts of India especially Gujarati. The dining area was spread very well and gave a perfect feel of a fine-dine experience.
As the sun settled down and the lights switched, there was a different glow to the tent city. The lampshades and the artistic bulbs used were really beautiful. There was no area in the entire city which could be found dimly lit.
There were various cultural program being organized in the evening during the Rann Utsav everyday. Here is a video shot by us giving you a glimpse of the African Tribal Dance at Tent City. This is performed by Siddhis with African inheritance. These people came from Africa with Portuguese sea traders and settled here. Now they have come to be known as Siddhis.
As the entire city is spread in a huge area, the management has three wheeler autos plying all around it for easy commuting of the guests. The city also has various indoor and outdoor sports sections for ATV, Para Motoring, Paintball, etc.

The packages for the stay at Tent City are available from 1 night stay to 3 night stay at the max. You can always plan your travel to the Rann Utsav by booking cheap air tickets in the ongoing airfare sale. The best time to visit the tent city is during the full moon nights. Although we spent only 1 night in the Tent City but it truly was our tryst with luxury in the middle of nowhere! An experience of a lifetime!

This looks amazing! I love the ‘tent’ – I’m not one for camping but would definitely be happy staying there! Everything looks so fun and vibrant and colourful!
