The Colorful Place – WIP Street Art Show
How would it feel if we found a large container all painted in modern art on the highway? Amazing I would say! The St+art India Foundation collaborated with Asian Paints and bunch of artists from India and abroad in Delhi to paint large, over-sized containers at the Inland Container Depot in Tughlaqabad. Each painting on the container had a story to it and depicted the emotions and feelings of the artist in the event called Work In Progress (WIP). The artists enjoyed painting the huge canvas and also delivered a message to the society through their piece of work.
As the event, WIP, is over now, I would like to take you all on a virtual tour of the ICD, TCD through my lens.

“Look Over” by Lucangelo BT
The elephant is one of the wisest animals in the world. In this artwork, though, his eyes are closed because he is disappointed with what he sees in the world around him and would like to imagine a better future for the world.

“Apsara – Composition IV” by Chifumi
This artwork made by Cambodian artist Chifumi for WIP show which is inspired by dances that are common in several cultures of Asia.

The colorful entrance of Work In Progress (WIP)

“See Through/See Beyond” by NEVERCREW
As I entered, an Astronaut greeted me. It seemed as if he is gazing across time and space connecting the present moment with eternity. This art work invites you to begin the exploration in your own way.

“Matruka” by Inkbrushnme
She has been painted to re-introduce us to the powerful side of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. The goddess depicted here can also be perceived as an ancient astronaut riding a hybrid vehicle ‘Yali’.

“Bali” by Amitabh Kumar
This piece of art screams out for attention. This image of a headless beast is a wake-up call to the reality of the huge mountain of landfill waste adjacent to the dry port, stagnating and dead. The city continues to turn a blind eye to its existence.

“Fruits of Childhood” by Anpu
This portrait of the child represents each one of us. We all are works of art of a magnificent creator, in continuous evolution, a theme which is in sync with WIP (Work In Progress), the essence of the festival.

Delhi based Sign Painter – Painter Shabbu, painted a container that was originally used for transporting Bananas all across India!

“Temple of Graffiti” by Harsha Raman

The Container Baba
When we talk about India, any ceremony is incomplete without blessings of a Sadhu Baba. As the Inland Container Depot is the temple for the Street Art and Graffiti, the Sadhu here has been created, in deep meditation and showering his love on the artists as they take on their new venture and challenges.

An impromptu piece called ‘Delhi Traffic’ by Shoe

“B R E A T H E” by Daku
Graffiti painted with special black ink made from PM 2.5 particles causing air pollution, this ink was developed by students of IIT-Delhi.

“Cosmic Egg” by Agostino Iacurci
What came first, the chicken or the egg? This question has intrigued us for centuries. The giant cosmic egg installation gives us the answer. An ancient and universal symbol, the egg gives form to chaos and from it hatches the sun (the golden yolk), leading to division of earth and sky and life.

“Thousand Faces” inside the container by Iranian artist NAFIR

“Composition of experience” by Niels Shoe Meulman

Sunset at ICD
Although this Street Art Festival is now over and these containers have left for their new destination, they have also left with us a soothing memory of the art displayed and a message to ponder on.
