Kuala Lumpur Itinerary – Chronicles from Day 1
With the introduction to our international trip to Malaysia and Singapore in the previous post, we are here to share day 1 of our itinerary for Kuala Lumpur. We tried to cover most parts of the city and neighboring areas in the two days that were dedicated to it. After reaching KL and exploring the Kuala Lumpur International Airport for some time we headed out straight to our AirBnB accommodation in the Regalia Residential Suites in KL. After a quick tour of the property and a sumptuous breakfast we freshened up and hit the streets to explore what Kuala Lumpur had to offer.

What could have been a better way to start the trip other than a cruise? We headed to Putrajaya, the administrative capital of Kuala Lumpur for the cruise service which takes us around the city. Putrajaya is located 35kms of KL and can be reached easily by a 20mins ride of the KLIA Transit train from KL Sentral Station. It was a very well guided and informative tour which helped us understand more about the city.

Once done with the cruise we went back to the KL Sentral station to explore the heart of the city, the Merdeka Square . This place can be reached by the GO KL bus service which is a free shuttle available from the KL Sentral station for visiting different parts of the city. The Merdeka Square is a place of historic significance as this is where Malaysia declared its independence and has been a venue for the annual Merdeka Parade.

The KL city gallery is a one stop solution for all your tourist needs in KL. This place gives us an overview of the city in the form of art and craft being displayed within the gallery. The staff of the gallery also helps us in understanding the places to visit depending on our duration of stay. They also help us in getting the tickets for major attractions of the city at better rates than buying them at the attractions itself. Last but not the least, you can get yourself a picture clicked at the city insignia for I <3 KL CITY!

The Merdeka Square is the central area which had other attractions like the Jamek Mosque, MUD and Dr. Abdul Samad Building located next to it. Jamek Mosque is one of the oldest mosques of the city and witnesses a huge footfall especially on Fridays. MUD is a theater which hosts a show talking about the history of Malaysia. It is a 1 hour duration informative show which helps us understand the growth and prosperity of Malaysia from the past in the form of 4 acts. Quite interesting and entertaining! Dr. Abdul Samad building houses the offices of various ministries of Malaysia including the Ministry of Information, Communications and Culture of Malaysia.

After exploring the Merdeka Square to the fullest, we headed for a quick stopover at the King’s Palace which is close by. The King’s Palace is the official residence of the King of Malaysia and is a beautiful palace known for its architecture and grandeur. This place displayed the lavish lifestyle of the king to the core and was mesmerizingly beautiful.

In a city full of skyscrapers and modern designs including the Petronas Tower and the KL Tower, Merdeka Square and the Kings Palace are places which take you back to the colonial design and architecture. All the above mentioned buildings were a visual treat and you could not help but be in awe of the beautiful and exceptional design of these monuments. As it was almost dark by the time we explored these places, we decided to head back to our stay for a quick dip in the pool and some refreshments. The highlight of choosing this accommodation was its Infinity Pool on the 37th floor which gave a spectacular view of the Pertonas and the KL Tower.

After an amazingly rejuvenating dip in the pool we quickly started for Jalan Alor, the hawker food street of Kuala Lumpur. The food street of Jalan Alor was brightly lit, crowded and smoky, all thanks to the grilling of the food on barbecue in the open.

This street had amazing food to offer and was a delight for the foodies in us. We tried the various cuisines offered, especially the sea food and decided to head back to our abode after a stroll of the food street.
The day 1 was hectic owing to the fact that we didn’t sleep much in the night. However, we tried to make the most of it and recharged ourselves completely with a good sleep as the next day was going to be more demanding. With greater expectations of an interesting tomorrow from the city of Kuala Lumpur, we decided to call it a day!
