Sirmour Himachal Pradesh – An Offbeat Weekend Getaway from Delhi
Last few months have been really hectic for both of us. While Vishu was busy in the office with his umpteen assignments, Saumya, on the other hand, had loads of tasks to complete post her trips to South India and Ladakh. As work was taking its toll on both of us, we decided to sneak out of Delhi for a quick weekend getaway in the mountains. One thing that we like the most about staying in NCR is that we can easily get to the mountains on an overnight journey. Both Uttarakhand and Himachal surround us really well. This time we picked up Himachal Pradesh and headed to a small village in Sirmour district known as Kanera. Kanera is a lesser explored, sparsely populated and a beautiful village in the Sirmour Himachal Pradesh. Exploring Kanera Village – An itinerary blog of a peaceful weekend getaway will give you all the things you want to know about this serene piece of land. Carnoustie Himalayan Eco Resort in the Kanera village is one of the best stay options there.

Where to stay in Sirmour Himachal Pradesh :
Kanera being a small village does not have many stay options. However, the Carnoustie Himalayan Ecoresort is just the perfect place to make your stay a beautiful one. This resort is located right in the heart of the village and offers food, lodging, and other recreational activities in a well-organized setup.
The resort has 3 cottages and 4 dome-shaped rooms, each well equipped with all the latest amenities. The rooms and washrooms are very well maintained by the staff at the Carnoustie Himalayan Eco Resort. During our 3 days stay at the resort we explored the resort as well as the surrounding areas. Here’s a detailed itinerary of the short and peaceful weekend getaway.
Day 1:
We reached the resort around 10 in the morning. The drive from Chandigarh to the Himalayan Eco Resort is very scenic and takes more than 4 hours. However, the flower farms on the way with yellow and white flowers keep you hooked on to the natural beauty. After reaching the resort and post breakfast we took a tour of the property. The property was artistically done with an in-house restaurant, a recreation center, a guest house, and an in-house spa. There is something for everyone in the Himalayan Eco Resort. Post the tour, it was time for a well-spread lunch followed by some rest. We decided to take it easy that day post an overnight journey.
Evenings are enjoyable at the Himalayan Eco Resort as they arrange a warm bonfire, cook some delicious snacks on the same and also play some soulful numbers. After spending a good 3 hours at the bonfire, chatting with the other guests, sharing our travel stories, we called it a day post dinner.
Day 2:
The second day started on a relaxed note. We enjoyed the breakfast with the perfect setting in the garden and the sun shining brightly. Post the breakfast we all headed for a trek in the Kanera Village. We met a few locals during the trek and they were equally excited to see us. After walking for almost an hour, crossing some rocky and green patches, we reached our destination. The destination was an area full of big rocks set on a stream of water flowing beneath it. The staff at the Himalayan Eco Resort had named it as the Chai-Maggi Point.
The name Chai Maggi Point comes from the fact that they prepare tea and Maggi by using the wood from the jungles, lighting a fire, setting up a stove and preparing food. The overall experience of having chai and Maggi at that point is simply breathtaking.
After a round of tea, we started back for our resort. As we reached the resort after clicking pictures on the way, a delicious spread of Himachali cuisine was waiting for us. We had Siddu, a Himachali bread is made in the form of a stuffed ball, and Mash Dal along with Mutton. The best part of Himalayan Eco Resort is that the food served here is very hygienic, organic and prepared like home.

Post lunch and rest for some time we went to Oorja, the in-house spa at the resort. The spa offers massage services by trained professionals and is a must post the trek. The evening again followed the same ritual followed by dinner.
Day 3:
This was our last day at the resort and we had to start our journey back home post lunch. We wanted to make the most of the half day we had here and spent a good time enjoying breakfast. Post the breakfast we enjoyed the cultural performances by the local kids. They presented some very nice song and dance performances that made our day. The staff at the Himalayan Eco Resort is mostly local but they are always keen to make their guests comfortable. Special thanks to Anita Ji for managing the property so well. After good two days of recharging ourselves, it was time to head back home.
The 3 days spent at the Himalayan Eco Resort were a much-needed break for us. We lived in the valley, enjoyed the beauty of the mountains, had some good homemade food and talked to each other like never before. As the resort did not have any network connectivity for most of the service providers it was a break from the social media and internet as well. Recharged and rejuvenated, we are back to work now!
