Agra Lucknow Expressway – All things you need to know!
[UPDATE]: Agra Lucknow Expressway is completely functional now and is connected directly via the Yamuna Expressway through the Ring Road in Agra. However, it is recommended to travel on this expressway only during the day time and not in the night to avoid any mishaps.
With the new year came new plans for travel and food hogging all across the globe. Some trips are quite impromptu but still it gives us so many experiences and memories to be shared. We happened to travel on the newly constructed Agra Lucknow Expressway while driving down from Delhi to our hometown, Lucknow. We tried to collect as much information as possible before we started but luck didn’t favor much. However, one of our friend from Facebook helped us with some time useful information about the start point. Here are our experiences, recommendations and memories from the Agra Lucknow Expressway – All things you need to know!
High on spirits and expecting awesome driving pleasure we started our trip to Lucknow from Ghaziabad at 8am in the morning. The expressway was inaugurated and opened for public on the 23rd of December, 2016 and has been quite talked about amongst the driving enthusiasts. We completed the Yamuna Expressway in a breeze and reached Agra by 10:30am with one quick break of 10 minutes after the 3rd toll.
We spoke to locals at the third toll and got to know that although the Agra Lucknow Expressway has been opened completely for public, there are some major diversions on it till Shikohabad. Our other option was to go to Kathphori, a town almost 30kms from Shikohabad and join the Agra Lucknow Expressway from there. This meant crossing towns like Tundla, Firozabad and Shikohabad before we could get back to cruise control again. We stuck to NH2 and continued till Kathphori before hitting the Agra Lucknow Expressway. There are well displayed sign boards almost 5kms before the expressway starts.

At the onset of the Agra Lucknow Expressway we found the boards signifying it as the country’s Longest Expressway. The banners also showed the amount of pride the state government takes in building this world class infrastructure in a record time.
Within just 10kms of this drive we got to understand that it is a very well built expressway, top notch in quality. The roads are tar roads with proper dividers and markings. Parts of this expressway are still under construction and hence we found traffic diverted in few stretches. The landscape is beautiful with greenery all around.

The mustard fields in most of the areas added to the scenic beauty of the drive. We entered Lucknow covering a distance of 225kms on the Agra Lucknow Expressway in 2 hours and 20mins. This included a quick break of 5 mins for clicking pictures. Overall, it was a pleasure driving on the Agra Lucknow Expressway and we look forward to more such road trips again.
Follow the highlighted path to reach Agra – Lucknow Expressway from Yamuna Expressway.
Here are a few recommendations to be noted before you plan to hit this expressway:
1) It is advisable to join the Agra Lucknow Expressway from Reliance Kathphori (Google it!) while going from Agra to Lucknow. This will save time and will be good for your vehicle too.
2) This expressway does not have any amenities as of now. So, before you take this route make sure you get your fuel topped up and carry food and water as per the need.
3) The Agra Lucknow Expressway is not access controlled and thus is a walking track for most stray animals. Be careful of dogs, cattle or carcass on the road. You may also find workers working on the roadside, be very careful!
4) Once you reach Lucknow, you get three exit points, one through Hardoi Road, second through Mohan Road and Old Lucknow and the third towards Naharia. Try avoiding the old Lucknow route (unless that’s your destination) and take the road towards Naharia and Cantonment.

What is the current toll rate from greater Noida to Agra on Yamuna expressway?
I would be traveling to Lucknow on 2nd of March,hope till then Lucknow would be approachable via express way from Agra itself,need not to go to kathphori.
Hello Ved, the current toll from Greater Noida to Agra is Rs. 415 on the Yamuna Expressway. Let’s hope that the Agra Lucknow Expressway becomes completely functional by the end of this month. We were updated recently that the Agra-Lucknow expressway is fully open via Yamuna expressway. We can confirm you after 9th March as we will be traveling on that day.

The Agra Lucknow Expressway is not safe to travel at night because it is not monitored/access controlled.
If you wish to travel to Gorakhpur from Lucknow we recommend you to take the following route:
Lucknow-Barabanki-Faizabad-Basti-Ram Sanehi Ghat-Gorakhpur.
The roads are very good with a travel time of around 4-4.5 hours.
If you are traveling to Delhi and wish to proceed to Gorakhpur directly from Lucknow then we recommend you to go via Cantonment to Polytechnic or Chinhat and avoid city traffic.

On the route, current status is that One no longer needs to join Agra – LKO expressway from Reliance Kathphori.
Please confirm.
I heard that as on 05-May-17, there are two tolls en-route on Agra – LKO and 5% of road has diversion. Is it correct ?
Hello Ankur. Yes the update is correct, you have a direct connectivity between both expressways now. There are no functional tolls on Agra – LKO as of now.
Hello I am planning to travel with family from noida to gorakhpur via yamuna expressway and agra lucknow expressway. I have few concerns 1) How much toll I need to pay until I reach gorakhpur. 2) How many CNG filling station are there on the way as I have CNG fitted car and want to utilize that 3) what would be best preferrable time to leave noida for same especially in June?

Hello Aditya! Please find your answers below:
1) The toll between Delhi/Noida to Lucknow is Rs.415 for the Yamuna Expressway and there is no toll on the Agra Lucknow Expressway yet. From Lucknow to Gorakhpur you will be getting 3 toll booths of Rs.90 each.
2) The best option would be to get your CNG topped up in Delhi before entering the Yamuna Expressway. You may not find any CNG station till Lucknow after that. Remember to get your fuel topped up completely just after the second toll on the Yamuna (near Bikano) to avoid any inconvenience on the Agra Lucknow Expressway as there are no fuel stations on it. The next best CNG option for you will be just before the Chinhat Tri-section (Tiraha) on the left. You should take the Amar Shaheed Path once you enter Lucknow to avoid the city traffic and head straight to Gorakhpur.
3) It is advisable to leave Noida early morning especially in the peak summers of June. Keep the tyre pressure low to avoid overheating. Avoid overspending on the expressways, we usually tend to get carried away. 100kmph would be ideal. DO NOT DRIVE ON AGRA LUCKNOW EXPRESSWAY AT NIGHT AT ANY COST.
Plan and leave accordingly so that you can exit the expressway before the sun sets.

1) Filling station in Yamuna expressway after second toll (near Bikano)- Is this CNG station or petrol pump? Is this opened 24 *7?
2) I have heard from someone that in Agra I can again refill my CNG. Is this true? If yes, how far it is from Yamuna expressway? what will be exist point from expressway to the CNG filling station?
3) I heard from someone agra-lucknow expressway is not completely functional and there are around 90 KM one way and construction still going on. Is this true?
4) Is Yamuna expressway directly connected to agra lucknow expressway or we need to enter in Agra city and then need to move towards Lucknow.?
Here are the answers dear:
1) It is petrol pump and mostly functional 24×7. However it is recommended to travel on the expressways during the day time.
2) No idea as we do not have a CNG vehicle. It is recommended to run on petrol and save time instead of entering the Agra city and coming back again.
3) The information about the Agra Lucknow Expressway being incomplete is not correct. The expressway is complete at both the ends and is linked to the Yamuna Expressway through the Inner Ring Road of Agra. Just keep going straight towards Agra at the exit of Yamuna Expressway and it will lead to Lucknow Expressway. Do not go towards the Kanpur exit as it will take you to the Old National Highway.
There are one more cng station in basai (agra) which is 12 km away from yamuna expressway exit and 10 km away from agra lucknow expressway entry

Latest updates:
1. CNG Pump is available at the Petrol pump on Yamuna X-way at Agra Toll.
2. LKO – GKP : 4 Tolls: 90+90+90+65 = 335/-
3. NO Washrooms/Toilets on Agra-LKO X-way (ALE). Senior citizens might have issue holding.
4. NO Restaurants. not even a water bottle available en-route
5. Refill fuel at Agra, as No petrol pump for 302 kms.
6. Yes, ideal speed is 100 kmph. High speed overheats tires dangerously.
7. No toll on ALE as of 20-May-17.

No, actually the Agra Lucknow Expressway is now directly connected to Yamuna Expressway via the Ring Road of Agra. You do not need to take any detour now and can directly zip through it.

The best route would be Ghaziabad — Kanpur — Allahabad — Varanasi
Why ,in the motel at lko Agra expressway dormentry are not available.
We have no idea about that.
Wayside amenities like restaurent, petrol pump, washrooms etc are available at around 100km and 200km.
I observed that the motel is also opened both side and rooms are also aavailable.

LATEST UPDATE.
Excellent expressway of 302 km long. I used it 4 times in this year 2020.
Speed limit is 100km/hr and speed cameras are also installed at various locations.
It took approx 3 hr 10 min to cross
Wayside amenities like restaurent, petrol pump, washrooms etc are available at around 100km and 200km.
I spotted police patrolling vans, ambulances on the way.
Perfectly safe and lovely experience.
