Soaking in the serenity – Pangong Tso
Ever since I watched the movie 3 idiots in 2009 I was really amazed by the beauty of the Pangong Tso and wanted to visit it at least once in my life. When we planned our trip to Ladakh, I knew I was in for a memorable journey by exploring new places, meeting new people and most importantly gaining a lot of experiences by traveling one of the most beautiful and peaceful places in the world.
The journey for Pangong started on a bright and a sunny day after a nice and sumptuous ‘homemade’ breakfast at Solpon Guest House (our homestay in Leh). Our first stop was Druke White Lotus School in Shay, popularly known as Rancho’s School, all thanks to the movie 3 idiots, for the remarkable increase in footfall every year.
Once done, we resumed our journey and were eagerly waiting for the ever beautiful Pangong Tso. The journey from Leh to Pangong is about 140kms covered in approximately 5 hours with one or two breaks. The roads are excellent with a lot of good work done by Border Road Organization (BRO). The scenic beauty of the journey brings a lot of peace with itself wanting you to ask for more.
We reached the Chang La Pass in the afternoon and we had already started to feel the difference in the altitude as we were standing at the third highest motor-able road in the world. It is always recommended to carry some medicines or oxygen cylinders for combating acute mountain sickness (AMS) when traveling in the Ladakh region, especially before crossing the passes.
Here we bring you a video of our journey to the Pangong Tso!
We were greeted by the beautiful marmots on our way to Pangong. They were welcoming us to witness the beauty of the region and seemed familiar to the attention they were getting by us and all the other tourists taking their pictures.
As we were about to reach Pangong by the swirling roads, we started getting the first glimpses of the blue waters guarded by the sand mountains on all sides.
Once at Pangong, you witness the ultimate beauty that nature holds within itself and the view is actually breathtaking. You just want to be there and soak the beauty in your eyes and heart to the fullest.
The area in and around Pangong is so peaceful that you would want to spend most of your life here. This is one place a person would want to spend most of the time of the year after achieving his goals and targets in the corporate world.
There are tent facilities for accommodation at the Pangong Tso for people who want to spend the night there and see the sunrise early morning. One thing noticeable at the lake is that all the eateries out there are either named Rancho’s cafe or 3 Idiots Cafe, all thanks to the movie, the popularity of this lake has increased by leaps and bounds since 2009.
It is highly recommended that one should visit Pangong Tso at least once in their life for the scenic beauty, nature and journey. Above all, the peace attained that will help us live through the stressful corporate life for at least some time.
