Himachal Heritage Village, Palampur – An abode amidst nature!
Once upon a time, miles away from the crowd, two men decided to promote their heritage and culture together and that led to the inception of Himachal Heritage Village at Palampur. Mr. Hem Dogra and Mr. Gagan Sharma who together as a team are doing a fabulous job in preventing and promoting their villages’ culture in the form of their property Himachal Heritage Village in the hearts of Palampur. Palampur is one place in Himachal Pradesh which is still untouched or you can say not so commercialized as McLeodganj and Dharamshala. When we were invited to visit Palampur few weeks back, we were sure to visit the Heritage Village as we had heard many good things about it from our fellow bloggers who have been there.

We reached Palampur in the afternoon and were warmly received by our host Gagan who took us straight to his beautiful property. This property was right in the valley with mountains surrounding it from all sides. The first impressions of this place made us think about the serenity and calmness that this place had to offer. There were no signs of any noise in the atmosphere and it was just too peaceful. The property had 4 different cottages and 7 rooms in total. It also hosts a pond in the center, with its water being supplied through natural sources.
As you enter the property, there is a dining hall and common area on the right. This hall has some interesting souvenirs collection and has been displayed beautifully there. The property has 4 cottages namely Una, Kangra, Barot and Khaniara. These cottages have been named after the places of Himachal Pradesh and have been made with materials procured especially from these areas.
Una boasts a typical mud house look from old times and has all the floors and walls made of mud. This is a two storied cottage with 1 room on each floor. Everything inside the cottage is very rustic and has a typical village feel right from the cupboards to switches used in the villages. But, one thing the creators have taken care of is the washrooms. We were told by Gagan that all the washrooms in the cottages have all modern amenities needed. This was a commendable job as washrooms are something most of us would not like to compromise on!
Kangra, the next cottage, was also the largest of the four. This one had 3 bedrooms with attached washrooms each along with a living room. Perfect place for a family stay! It also had a separate entry to the ground and first floor, making it convenient for a group staying together without hindering privacy.
The next cottage Barot with woody exteriors is a 1 room cottage with attached washroom. The interiors of the cottage also had a marvelous woodwork. Even the lampshade placed in the room had a bamboo cover. Real detailing I would say!

The last cottage Khaniara was made of slates, all proficiently stacked above each other making it look elegant. This was Gagan’s personal favorite and we couldn’t doubt that after looking at the interiors. The washroom of this cottage was astonishingly beautiful with a small fountain within it. This seemed a perfect cottage for couples who are looking for luxury in the heart of nature.
By looking at the maintenance of the property which is 4 years old, we know how much efforts have been put in by the staff. All the rooms were impeccable to the core. The Himachal Heritage Village also houses a duck, very active and playful, along with some hen, dogs, rabbits and birds. They also serve authentic Himachali cuisine and organize feasts if requested by the customers giving them a taste of their culture.
After visiting Himachal Heritage Village and looking at the hospitality of our hosts and the staff all we could say is that these people are putting in some real good efforts to make sure they give a pleasant and memorable stay to their clients. They will personally leave no stone unturned to bring a smile on our faces. Well done guys!
